“Everyone…is destined to experience not only the exhilaration of life but also its inevitable darkness: disillusionment, aging, illness, isolation, loss, meaninglessness, painful choices and death. In this sense, we are all fellow travellers” (Irvin Yalom – Psychotherapist and Psychiatrist).
My name is Gabi Levine and I am a clinical psychologist practicing in Sandton. The intention of this website is to give you an overview of the type of psychotherapy services I offer, the ways in which I work, as well as other relevant information. This will hopefully help you to make a more informed decision about whether entering into a psychotherapy process with me would be useful to you at this point in time.
I offer Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (PT) to adults (18 years onwards), as well as trauma counselling. I practice from Morningside, Sandton.
Making a decision to start therapy and then finding the “right” therapist is often a confusing and anxiety provoking process. We usually seek out therapy because we are in some form of distress or crisis and are seeking relief, support and skills as ways of coping and living better and more authentically.
Whatever the reasons and feelings behind seeking therapy, choosing a therapist is a highly personal matter. There are many different types of therapists and styles of therapy. Different approaches and therapist personalities suit different people. Research has found that the relationship between the client and therapist has more effect on the outcome of therapy than any other aspect of treatment. In this sense, therapy itself is not something one person does to another. Rather, it is a unique, collaborative relationship between two people where the aim is to make it possible for the client to use the therapist and the therapy process as fruitfully as they can. In the end, “no therapist can ever know what is best for you. They can only ever try to help you work it out for yourself.” (Anouche Gross – Psychoanalyst).
